THE SLATEFIBER CONE DETAILED SOUND

Exclusive to Focal and made in France, the Slatefiber cone is made from recycled carbon fibres applied as a filling sandwiched between two layers of thermoplastic polymer. In their quest for perfection, our engineers have opted to use non-woven carbon fibres, all pointing in the same direction to achieve greater rigidity, better damping and lightness – the “essentials” of a great speaker driver. Renowned for reproducing a rich, dynamic and balanced sound, this exclusive cone features in numerous Focal products across our home, studio and car audio ranges.

THE TNF TWEETER – OUTSTANDING TREBLE

The Aluminium/Magnesium TNF tweeter with inverted dome delivers a clear and mellow treble. The surround linking the dome to its stand uses a memory foam material called Poron. This surround is directly derived from the Utopia’s famous Beryllium tweeter and reduces distortion by a third between 2000Hz and 3000Hz, the ear’s high-sensitivity range. This Focal tweeter guarantees an impressively stable soundstage.

Osvedčený koncept v podobe oceňovaných modelov ELYSIAN 4 a ELYSIAN 2, ELYSIAN Center pokračuje so špeciálne navrhnutým HF driverom AMT; radikálne odlišný spôsob pohybu vzduchu, využívajúci veľkú, plisovanú, ľahkú membránu poháňanú po jej povrchu radmi strategicky umiestnených kovových pásikov ponorených do silného magnetického poľa. Záhyby v membráne sa sťahujú a rozširujú pod vplyvom hudobného pohonu, pričom medzi sebou stláčajú vzduch, aby vytvorili požadovaný tvar zvukovej vlny. S ultraľahkým materiálom membrány nazývaným „PET“ a akusticky tlmenou zadnou komorou ELYSIAN AMT vyniká oproti porovnateľným vysokofrekvenčným jednotkám tým, že poskytuje ešte očarujúcejšie čisté a sladšie rozšírené vysoké frekvencie.

ELYSIAN Center, ktorý pracuje v trojpásmovej konfigurácii, je tiež vybavený špeciálnymi basovými jednotkami s matricou zo sklenených vlákien. 220 mm (8,5”) basové jednotky, zakončené vysoko flexibilným gumeným rámom a poháňané špeciálne vyvinutým systémom motora s nízkym skreslením, dosiahnu frekvenciu pod 27 Hz. Výsledkom je pôsobivé basové vzrušenie, ktoré ponúka úplne pohlcujúci divadelný zážitok.

Podobne ako v modeloch ELYSIAN 2 a 4, ELYSIAN Center využíva pre reprodukciu stredov patentovanú matricu z tkaných sklenených vlákien. Táto štruktúra poskytuje vynikajúcu kombináciu nízkej hmotnosti a vysokej pevnosti s pridaním vysokoplastického povlaku na kontrolu jeho akustického správania. S takouto membránou s nízkou hmotnosťou sa na okraj hodí  nízko tlmiaci penový materiál podobný gume – opäť potiahnutý špecialnou vrstvou kvôli zlepšeniu odolnosti. Linearizovaný výstup naprieč celou šírkou pásma, dokonca aj mimo osi, zvyšuje prirodzenú odozvu na hudbu, ktorú možno počuť
kdekoľvek si chce poslucháč sadnúť.

Táto kombinácia meničov, ktorá je dodatočne vyladená, prináša novú úroveň hmatateľnosti vokálov a prezentácie zvukovej scény. Wharfedale chcel pre rad ELYSIAN  vytvoriť kabinet, ktorý zlepší akustický výkon meničov a zároveň poslúži ako kus nábytku, na ktorý môže byť majiteľ právom hrdý. Ručne vyrábané exotické dyhy odzrkadľujú klavírne laky, ručne leštené do šiestich úrovní hĺbky, aby poskytli skutočne krásny povrch.

Pod dyhou, sú navrstvené rôzne dreviny, navrhnuté tak, aby znížil rezonanciu kabinetu reproduktoru pod úroveň počuteľnosti. A voice coil beyond this class

The voice coil is wound on a high-power epoxy/glass fibre bobbin highly unusual in speakers at this price level. This has the advantage of not adding eddy currents and delivering greater power handling than an aluminium bobbin, whilst also being much stiffer than the Kapton type associated with this price-class.

DIAMOND highs

The 25mm dome is made from a woven polyester film with a high-loss coating to deliver open and smoothly extended high frequencies. The magnet system and the front plate have been optimised for wide dispersion and uncompressed behaviour. The front plate is flat and exposes the dome as much as possible; only a very short duct on the front plate balances the acoustic load and improves the SPL (sound pressure level) measurement.

A crossover of style

The crossover network uses an acoustic LKR 24dB topology. This includes air-core inductors of the type more commonly found in high-end speakers, selected because they produce the lowest distortion of all inductor types. As the resistance of the coil is higher than a standard laminated steel or ferrite core inductor, the magnetic structure of the mid/bass driver has been modified to compensate, resulting in fast, clean bass with no distortion from the inductor.

Firm and fair

The DIAMOND 12.1 ’s rear-ported enclosure is precisely sized so that the internal volume works in harmony with the drive unit system to deliver the desired sonic result. A multi-layered sandwich design subdues the identifiable characteristics of the cabinet’s ‘sound’. Even the resonant properties of the glue between the layers was measured to determine the optimum combination.

latefiber cone for balanced sound
The three characteristics required for smooth, natural sound from a speaker driver are rigidity, lightness and damping. Focal’s impressive new Slatefiber cone hits all three targets – and then some. Using non-woven, carbon fibres, sandwiched between layers of thermoplastic polymer, the woofer cone provides the perfect composition for smooth, precise sound – whether it’s dialogue, special effects or music from a dialogue.

TNF tweeters for smooth precision
Derived from the reference Focal Utopia’s Beryllium tweeter, the TNF tweeter uses aluminium and magnesium with Poron suspension for an exceptionally smooth yet detailed sound. The Poron surround reduces distortion at a point critical to human hearing, giving silky-smooth treble. The classic Focal inverted dome is also present – helping to spread the sound evenly across the image.

Flexible positioning
For flexible positioning, the Chora Centre uses a sealed cabinet. This mitigates against the possible sonic degradation from using the speaker in a cabinet or close to a wall. For the sharpest dialogue, a removable base is supplied – directing the sound directly towards you. For home cinema systems using a projector screen, an optional stand is also available.
