Transformátor FlatCap XS má dve samostatné sekundárne vinutia na izoláciu každého z duálnych zdrojov separátne. Zahŕňa štyri nízkošumové regulátory testované spoločnosťou Naim Audio na dosiahnutie výnimočného výkonu.

Technology & Craft

The streaming section of the ND5 XS 2 uses the latest Naim network card featuring low-noise, high-speed low-voltage differential signalling (LVDS) to route the digital audio signal. The higher speed is capable of decoding all HD audio formats at up to 32 bits/384 kHz or DSD128. Rather than the source acting as the digital timing master, our new streaming board turns things around and allows our DAC clock to control the flow of audio data. The data is integer-over-sampled in a SHARC DSP to an incredible 40-bit accuracy before it’s fed to the PCM1791A Burr-Brown digital-toanalogue converter.

Developing a new streaming platform was one of the biggest projects we have ever taken on. Naim engineers across all disciplines – electronic, industrial, acoustic and mechanical – worked for three years to create a system that could make the most of online services such as TIDAL and Spotify while adding future-proof flexibility through Chromecast built-in. Supporting faster data rates with dual-band Wi-Fi and the latest 802.11ac protocol, this robust platform was designed for the highest performance on every level.

The upgrades in more detail:

  • Naim R&D team has found a way to more than double the speed of the voltage gain stage, which in turn doubles the rate at which the speaker output stage can react.
  • The second gain stage transistors have been optimised, so they no longer need to be shielded by a cascode stage transistor. Removing the cascode means less amplifier stabilisation is required: that doubles the slew rate and delivers another uplift in sound quality.
  • The phono circuit topology comprises 3 stages: the gain stage, passive equalisation and final gain and active equalisation. This enables excellent noise performance, extended RIAA equalisation beyond the audio band and great overload headroom.
  • All RIAA equalisation capacitors are ‘through-hole’ mounted film designs, with low microphonic pickup and excellent transient performance. As phono stages are 1000x more sensitive than other inputs, this greatly benefits the sound quality.
  • Input impedance is 47kΩ in parallel with 470F capacitive loading; the gain is perfect for 5mV moving magnet cartridges

Technology & Craft

The CD5si name may only differ from its CD5i predecessor by one character, but under the skin there’s numerous fundamental improvements and advances – each one aimed at extracting more music and enjoyment from every CD. To begin with, the CD5si digital to analogue converter chip has been upgraded to a Burr Brown PCM1793 – a device very closely related to the one used in the NDX high-end streaming player. The CD5si also benefits from a more stable DAC clock, higher voltage power supply rails, a revised analogue filter design and a brand new CD transport and laser optics. All these changes were driven by our relentless search for engineering reliability and sound quality, and the benefit of each change was confirmed after many hours of listening.

However, just as change can bring improvement, there’s often nothing wrong with sticking to your guns, so the CD5si retains all of its predecessor’s best features and Naim Audio trademarks. The unique Naim Audio swing-out CD drawer, laser tracking and digital error correction software, discrete analogue output electronics, and a die-cast, non-magnetic enclosure construction that helps ensure the electronics within can extract the most music possible from every CD.

Decades have passed, but the role of the NAIT 5si is fundamentally the same as its original forebear. So the engineering challenge – to maximise performance whilst maintaining engineering efficiency, quality and reliability – hasn’t changed. Whichever way you stream your music, the Mu-so Qb 2nd Generation delivers. With direct access to Spotify Connect (Premium Spotify account required), Tidal and thousands of Internet radio stations you can enjoy near limitless music at the touch of a preset. Chromecast is built-in, seamlessly linking to hundreds of supporting apps, such as Deezer, Qobuz and SoundCloud. If you prefer to stream within your own network, UPnP (Universal Plug n’ Play) is also supported – right up to High Resolution 32 bit/384 kHz files.

AirPlay 2 and Bluetooth

Spacious, stereo sound – from a single box
Unlike some rivals, the Mu-so Qb 2nd Generation is built to deliver full stereo sound. Beneath the grille are stereo, two-way speakers that are specifically angled to deliver an immersive, stereo sound. Far from being ordinary speakers, the Naim Mu-so Qb G2 uses high quality, soft dome tweeters paired with custom mid-range drivers for a smooth and natural sound.

Deceptive power
Despite its compact case, the Mu-so Qb 2nd Generation still delivers a mind-blowing 300 watts of pure power. Two-thirds of the power is channelled to the stereo speakers with a meaty 100 watts dedicated to the bass.
